A conversation over a casual afternoon lunch led to the creation of Faber & Trause, and it made sense. Prior to founding their practice in October of 2025, they had been friends and colleagues throughout their careers. They both belong to an informal laywers’ association in Portland, OR, a unique community of legal professionals dedicated to a level of cordiality and respect even when representing opposing sides of a case.
For many years, both Sandy Faber and Jon Trause operated solo practices before finding themselves increasingly overlapping in family service. Each is the lawyer the other trusts the most, providing backup when needed and helping each other through personal legal matters.

Sandra received her juris doctorate from University of Oregon College of Law. During law school she externed for the Honorable Susan Svetkey, and developed a passion for family law. Sandra has devoted her career to helping families through crisis and transition.
Sandra’s been practicing family law for 15 years and worked at firms until 2013, when she started a solo practice. She’s passionate about helping high conflict families find a peaceful, or peaceful enough, path forward.

Jon received his juris doctorate from Portland State University. While in law school, he clerked for Student legal services and found a true calling in serving his community. Throughout his career, connection to community has remained a foundational principle.
Jon’s been practicing for 11 years total, a mix of family law, estate planning and litigation. After working with a firm for several years and learning the intricacies of estate planning, he’s operated a solo practice for several years.
